Your Questions, Answered
Do I need to be Hindu or religious to attend?
Not at all. Hare Krishna Melbourne warmly welcomes everyone — of every background, faith and lifestyle. Our events, meals and meditation sessions are open to all. You’re invited to explore at your own pace, with absolutely no pressure or expectation of commitment.
Is the Sunday Feast really free?
Yes, the Sunday Feast is completely free and open to everyone. ISKCON’s internationally famous Saturday and Sunday Feasts are offered free of charge to the public.
What is mantra meditation and will I find it strange?
Mantra meditation involves repeating a sacred mantra (a spiritual sound vibration in Sanskrit) while concentrating your mind on that sound. In ISKCON, devotees typically repeat the Maha Mantra — “Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare; Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare”. It’s a simple practice found in many spiritual traditions, and you’re welcome to try it at your own pace without any pressure.
Can I book the temple for a wedding or ceremony?
Yes, temple bookings for weddings or ceremonies are possible. You should visit the office inside the temple for a detailed discussion about booking requirements and availability.
